Bangka Belitung Tourism


Bangka-Belitung is one of Indonesia provinces. It includes two large islands, Bangka and Belitung, and several smaller ones, which lie east of Sumatra, northeast of South Sumatra province. Bangka Belitung (BABEL) Islands province is the 31st Province in Indonesia, one of the newest provinces. Bangka Belitung get it’s approved as a new province in 2001 separated with south Sumatra. That acknowledgement is because of the people struggle. The region that was a great tin mines, now already to reach the new phase in its life. It provisioned with the beautiful of nature, and the uniquely of culture, Bangka Belitung step to the better future.
Supported by the “Serumpun Sabalai” spirit and abundant natural resources, it has been expecting a greater role to speed up the island region’s development, namely Bangka regency, Belitung regency and Pangkal Pinang city through cooperation development. That potency of culture and tourism is also supported by its strategic location that can connect with other interesting area. The sea transportation that become the most accessibility in Bangka Belitung Island, is support its economics activities among the Islands.
The richness of Bangka Belitung Island of nature and tin mines until its maritime rich, make Bangka Belitung a magnet for the new comers to get a better life. A Balinese countryside is found in this Island named Giri Jati village, complete with all of Bali culture that remembering us to Bali Island. Beside Bali tribe, we also can found Bugis tribe that adds the various cultures in Bangka Balitung Island. This Bugis tribe can be found in the fishermen village at Tanjung Binga. Otherwise, the original tribe, Melayu culture has strong influence in the traditional ceremony and religious ceremony. One of the ceremonies is Rebo Kasan Ceremony that done by Air Anyer village people. It is believed that one day of a year, the God give His 320,000 angels in the world. The people must together to pray. This ceremony was held in the beach, but now on, it held in the mosque then continued to the beach. Formerly, this ceremony become the people party with its star party is ‘Dambus’ art.

Geographically

Bangka Belitung province is located between 104°50′ – 109°30′ East Longitude and 0°50′ – 4°10′ South Latitude, with its total area of 81,724.54 km.

Administrativelly

Administrativelly, Bangka Belitung comprises of 2 regencies and 1 city, namely Bangka regency, Belitung regency and Pangkal Pinang City, of which, the biggest regency’s area is Bangka regency with 11,534.14 km area, and the smallest is Pangkal Pinang City, with 89.40 km area.

Climate

There are two seasons that are suitable for sailing to these islands: February-March and October-November, when the wind and the waves are low. The heaviest rainfall is around 2,500 mm per annum with its average temperature between 25°C – 26°C.

Population

In 2001, Babel’s population was 920,729 consisted of 462,640 men and 458,089 women. The biggest population among the regencies was Bangka regency, 583,841 people, while the most density population was Pangkalpinang City, with its 1,396 people/km. In 2001, the growth of population reached 1.49 % per annum averagely. Labor. In 2000, its labor force recorded as many as 100,825 people.

Bangka Island


Bangka is an island which located in East side of Sumatra Island and part of Bangka Belitung archipelago (Babel). Bangka according to Bangka people’s daily language means “old man” or “very old”, so the island of Bangka can be interpreted as “the old island.” When referring to the mineral sources, this island is very rich with Mineral of Tin, which is why people called this island as Bangka, taken from Wangka, which means Tin or Timah (Indonesian language).
According to folklore, Bangka Island has no indigenous people; all the residents were migrants from tribal tribe called Sekak People. This people were still adhered to animism. Then enter the nation of Malay from the Malacca brought Islam to this island which then evolved until present time.
Bangka was ceded to Britain by the sultan of Palembang in 1812, but in 1814 it was exchanged with the Dutch for Cochin in India. The island was occupied by the Japanese from Februari 1942 to August 1945. It became part of independent Indonesia in 1949. The island, together with neighboring Belitung, was formerly part of South Sumatra (Sumatera Selatan) province, but in 2000 the two islands became the new province of Bangka-Belitung.

Pangkalpinang


Located on the eastern coast of Bangka Island, Pangkalpinang is the island’s largest city and capital of the Province of Bangka-Belitung Islands. Pangkalpinang is the gateaway for those who give visit and explore the beauty of Bangka Belitung.
Nevertheless, Pangkalpinang is also the center of provincial government, economic and some of commercial activities. The name Pangkalpinang is taken from the word Pangkal or Pengkal and Pinang. Pangkal or Pengkal in the Malay language means center or beginning. It refers to the city’s role as the center of the tin mining industry. As we know, this city was once a small mining town that subsequently grew into the island’s commercial center as well as connecting port among all the islands. While Pinang, on the other hand is the palm tree that found abundantly on the island.
To trace the history of tin mining industry on Bangka and Belitung and in Indonesia in general, Pangkalpinang is the right place to know. In fact, we can visit the Indonesia Tin Museum located at Jl. Jendral Achmad Yani no.17 in the heart of Pangkalpinang, that stores all information about tini mining. The museum is the only museum of its kind in Asia.
In case of tourism, Pangkalpinang boasts numbers of pristine beaches. Let say Pasir Padi Beach, Tanjung Bunga Beach and other destinations are worth visited.
How to get there :
From Jakarta, there are daily flights from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to Depati Amir Airport in Pangkalpinang. The flights are served by Sriwijaya Air, Batavia Air, Lion Air, and Garuda Indonesia. The city is also accessible from Palembang via daily flights served by Sriwijaya Air.
The Pangkalbalam seaport also acts as a passenger ports serving ferries to and from Jakarta and fast boats or Jetfoils to and from Tanjung Pandan in Belitung Island. The ships schedules from Tanjung Priok to Pangkalpinang or to Belinyu in Bangka as well as from Tanjung Priok to Tanjung Pandan or Tanjung Ru in Belitung are nevertheless irregular. The only airline that serves direct flight from Pangkalpinang, in Bangka Island, to Tanjungpandan, on Belitung Island, and vice versa, is the Sky Aviation. The flights are only available on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Alternatively, you can also use the daily Bahari speed boat that will take 4 hours. This is by far the most convenient means of Sea transportation and comes complete with air conditioning.

Zapin Tembung Dance


Zapin Dance is a dance that is popular in Malaysia and in Indonesia, especially in Malay-populated provinces in Sumatera (Riau Province, Jambi province, Riau Islands Province, North Sumatera, and Bangka-Belitung Islands) and West Kalimantan. It is believed that this dance has been introduced by Arab immigrant, Muslim missionaries from the Middle East in the fourteenth century.
In the old days, it only males were allowed to perform; nowadays, female dancers are included. It used to be performed exclusively for religious ceremonies but through the years it has become a form of traditional entertainment, hence the participation of female dancers is allowed.
The dancers usually perform in pairs and are accompanied by a traditional music ensemble which normally consists of the gambus, accordion, rebab, marwas (bongos), rebana (drum) and dok.

Indonesia Tin Museum


Bangka and Tin have always been inseparable, since the name Bangka itself originates from Wangka which means tin in the local language. As the city of tin mining, Pangkalpinang, which also the capital of Bangka Belitung, has an important museum that stores everything about tin mining in Indonesia.
Indonesia Tin Museum is located on Jalan Ahmad Yani.No 179, Pangkalpinang on Bangka Island. The museum occupies the building what was once the house of the Head of Administration of Bangka Tin Mining or Hoofd Administrateur Bangka Tin Winning (BTW) during the Dutch colonial era. It established in 1958 and officiated in 1997, this museum is the only Tin Museum in Indonesia and Asia which today is under the management of the Indonesian state enterprise PT.Tambang Timah.
Dated back to 17th Century, the history of the tin mining industry begins. At that time, the island of Bangka was still run under Palembang Sultanate and finally took over by the Dutch during their arrival in 1858. Since that moment, the remnants of the Dutch colonial era still decorate many parts of Pangkalpinang, including the building that houses the Tin Museum of Indonesia. When Indonesia gained her Independence, mining industries were nationalized with the establishment of the tin smelting project at Mentok, Central Bangka in 1962.
At Indonesia Tin Museum, visitors are presented with various collections related to the tin mining industry, including the most traditional one. Here you can find a traditional bailer that was used in the 1700’s to retrieve water and tin ores and a unique tool called belincong that was used to mine the tin.
How to get there :
The best way to reach the museum is to rent a car or motorcycle. Car rental services generally comes with a driver with price starting from IDR350,000 –per day. Or for a more practical options you can also take ojek or motorbike taxis, with negotiable prices depending on the distance.

Pasir Padi Beach


Pasir Padi Beach is approximately 7 km from the city Pangkalpinang. This is the closest beach if you have arrived at Pangkalpinang airport and becomes the most famous destination in Bangka.
This beach is the only beach with the sand that resembles the grains of rice, just like the name Pasir Padi or the sand of rice. For those who give visit to this beach has to pay Rp. 10.000 per person as an entrence fee. There are numbers of public facilities that availables in this area, like hotels, restaurants and food stalls.
Pasir Padi beach is located at Pasir Padi Street, about 7 Km from the heart of Pangkalpinang city. Pasir Padi has stunning scenery as it has a wide coastline for about 300 meters with rocky and coral scene and beautiful stretch of white sand along the 2 km. On holidays the number of tourist arrivals can be reached 6,000 people per day.
This beach has calm and safe waves and it comfortable for swimming. To support the tourism sector at Pasir Padi beach, number of accommodation in the form of five-stars hotel, with full facilities, such as restaurants and conference rooms, exhibition and others, are available. Besides, traditional stalls serving a variety of seafood is also become the thing you can get at this place.

Tanjung Pesona Beach


Pantai Tanjung Pesona is one of the favorite tourism spots for the people who visit Bangka. It only takes 15 minutes to arrive on this beach from Sungailiat city, or 45 minutes from Pangkalpinang. The beach is located in Rambak village, Sungailiat, and it has interesting facilities that will be great fun for children.
There are numbers of water sports that can be choose for those who like outdoor activity like canoeing, banana boat, jet skiing, swimming, playing at white sand or do fishing. By renting a speedboat and fishing equipment that has been provided, you can hope in to the sea and do fishing.
Tanjung Pesona is located between Uber Gulf Coast and Tikus beache. This beach has a panoramic view of the open sea, on a promontory with a line of large exotic rocks. Pantai Tanjung Pesona has been equipped with various tourist facilities, including four-star hotels.
The sea is calm enough to swim. The charm of the beach offers a cool, distant sea breeze. The large trees are well groomed and becomes interesting attraction for those who visit this beach.

Matras Beach & Parai Tenggiri Beach


Parai Tenggiri is a beach that located in the area of Matras Sungailiat, about 40 km from Depati Amir Airport, Pangkalpinang. Sinar Baru Village, Sungailiat District, Bangka, Bangka Belitung province. Parai Tenggiri is the most popular and exclusive beaches in Bangka Belitung. The beach was quite flat and has gentle waves. Facilities at this beach are including hotel, outbound and water sports playing.
At this beach, you can swimming and playing in the water along the beach with white sand and green sea water. Parai Beach is the ideal place for chilling and relaxing enjoying the nuance of the beach and the green atmosphere.
In Parai Tenggiri you can also see the large boulders granite in many unique shapes that cannot be found in other areas. This makes the rocks on this beach scenery becomes even more special and often jaw-dropping the visitors who come. From the top of the rocks, the visitors can sit back to enjoy the beauty of the South China Sea that is calm and choppy. At night, the visitors can freely enjoy the atmosphere of the night on the beach which is colored by the light from ships that sailing while enjoying fries, fried banana cheese, compote pumpkin, or warm drink that can be purchased at a nearby restaurant. In other hand, Matras Beach is also very beautiful and ramps. This beach is located in the village of Sinar Baru, Sungailiat District, at the eastern part of Bangka Island Sea, which is about 40 km from Pangkalpinang or 7 km from Sungailiat City. This beach has fine white sand, waving palm trees and natural river flow. The place is comfortable and quiet that will provide flexibility for you to eat food while leaning on natural rocks and enjoy the beauty atmosphere around the beach. There are many airlines that serve the airport for flights to Depati Amir Pangkalpinang such as Garuda, Lion Air, Batavia Air, Sriwijaya Air and others. To arrive at this beach, visitors can use various types of vehicles that can be rented in Depati Amir. If you want to use public transportation, from Pangkalpinang the visitors can take Colt, majoring Pangkalpinang-Sungailiat with cost Rp. 6.000, -.
Meanwhile, if you want to Matras Beach you can use a private car or taxi from Sungailiat or Pangkalpinang. The trip to Matras Beach takes approximately 1 hour by the road that up and down. The entrance fee to this beach is around Rp 2,000, – to 5,000, – per person.

Batu Bedaun Beach


Located in Kampung Bukit Kuala, Sinar Jaya Urban Village, Sungailiat district, this beach is quite unique, which is situated side by side with Parai Tenggiri Beach marked with a tree grows out of rocks.
The name of Pantai Batu Bedaun (a rocky leaf beach) was believed as there was a small island in the middle of the coast, comprising only large rock and there is a tree growing in the middle. It does look unique. Up to this day, the story was believed to be the origin name to this beach.
Pantai Batu Bedaun is a beach with clear blue sea and other uniqueness comes from the trees that grow on rocks. For those who like fishing, swimming, sunbathing or taking photography, Pantai Batu Bedaun is a perfect choice for you and your family to spend holidays. This charming beach will energize us and refreshing our mind with wonderful divine nature. To be able to reach Pantai Batu Bedaun can be starts by using two-wheeled vehicles and four wheels from Toboali city with a distance of approximately 135 km.

Rambak Beach


The beach is located in Matras Village, Sinar Jaya Urban Village of Sungailiat District, precisely at the northern east area of Bangka Island. Rambak beach has sloppy beach with white sand beautiful panorama. The beach is span 3 km long and 20-30 m wide.
Along the sight, when we visiting Rambak beach, there will be palm plant background and natural river flow generally called as Heaven’s Beach and is the most visited beach in Bangka Regency.
Huge granite rocks protrude from the water in seeming contradiction to the beach’s calm appearance. A clear, blue sky extends above the horizon, decorated sporadically with fluffy white clouds. Meanwhile, the outer edge of the beach is carpeted in grass and shaded leafy trees. Several small huts also line the outskirts of the beach together with simple stalls selling fresh food and cool beverages.
How to get there :
Fly to Depati Amir Airport in Pangkalpinang, capital city of Bangka-Belitung Province. This domestic airport is accessible from Jakarta, Batam and Palembang. The city of Sungailiat is about 30 kilometers from Pangkalpinang and can be reached by road in under an hour. Bangka and Belitung are known for high quality asphalt, so the drive will be very smooth. Travelling along a coastal road, you can enjoy the scenic view of large rivers, bridges and old, traditional houses.
Rambak Beach is about 15 minutes by road from the city of Sungailiat and is easily accessible by rental car or motorbike. The beach is not run under any specific management, so you are free to park where you like and enjoy the beach as you wish. There is not much public transportation on the island, so it is advisable to hire a car or motorcycle for the duration of your stay.

Tikus Beach


Tikus beach is located in Rebo Village, Kenanga Urban Village, Sungailiat District. Tikus beach still preserve its naturality and much visited by tourism. The coast is decorated with smooth white sandand is indeed very attractive for tourist enjoy. Tikus beach is one of the attractions on the island of Bangka and has the same beauty with other beaches on Bangka. The unspoiled beach area is adjacent to a hill called Bukit Rebo. The beach also has fine white sand and also various types of granite boulders.
Despite its name, Pantai Tikus or Rat Beach, there will be no rats at all can be finding at this beach. In other hand, this beach offers very beautiful scenery and unspoiled. Moreover, when the sun appeared on the eastern horizon, then this is the right moment to aim your camera and capturing this into frame. When visiting Tikus Beach, you might as well visit Tanjung Pesona Beach and Teluk Uber Beach because the place is near at one to another.
The scenery at Tikus Beach is quite stunning. The nature is still fresh, the easy access and the line of huge granite rocks is a great combination. On top of the hill there is a magnificent temple with round shape. The visitors can enjoy the beauty of the beach by enjoying snacks and drink from the top of the hill

The access to the beach is very easy because it is near to the highway. You can use a private vehicle or rental car from Pangkalpinang to go to Tikus Beach.

  Teluk Uber Beach

Pantai Teluk Uber or Uber Gulf Coast is one of the coastal tourism on the island of Bangka, precisely in Rambak Village, Srimenanti, District Sungailiat, Bangka. The beach is about 40 km from the city of Pangkalpinang. The beach is so natural and it has a total area of about 25 hectares with overhanging inland locations that form around the bay so that people call it as Pantai Teluk or Gulf Coast.
Along the light golden sandy beach, there are cluster of granite rocks on either side so that the waves coming to this beach being small because it is blocked by the cluster of granite boulders. The contours of sloping beach and the sea water is clean and clear; it has small beach waves that make the beach safe for swimming. The beach is also suitable for those who want to alienate yourself from the noise of the city.
The trees that grow around this beach make it shady and cool. There are dozens of fishermen who are in the middle of the turquoise blue ocean, and it boasts a beautiful view at this gulf. During in the morning or late afternoon is the ideal time to enjoy the sunrise or sunset on the horizon.
There is a hotel that has ten rooms as the only venue if you want to spend the night in this coastal region. Although, the area of tourism is still minor for amenities, but the natural beauty is ready to pamper you.
To reach this place, from the city of Pangkalpinang, you can rent a car around Rp. 350,000. Also, we can use public transportation that serving from Pangkalpinangn to Sungailiat. After arrival in Sungailiat we can rent a motor rickshaw that headed to the Gulf Coast Uber for around Rp. 5000.

Pemali Open Pit Tin Mine


Passing through the country side, small villages and pepper plantations along the route, an unusual and splendid view will be observed from the top of a mountain in the mining area, looking down about 100 M you will see the progress of the tin mine. People from Siantan and Johor of Malaysia first discovered tin in Bangka Island in 1710, since then a lot of traders from Asia as well as from Europe stopped and visited Bangka Island. To operate the tin mines, skilled labors were imported from Malacca and China. This is the only open pit tin the excavation and in the future mine in Indonesia will grow

Pemali Hot Springs


Most of Indonesian Island, lies in a volcanic belt, however, Bangka Island has no volcanoes. The Pemali Hot Springs is naturally created pool from the underground hot springs in the area. The tin workers found it and today a recreation park exists around the spring’s area. Please make sure to bring along your swimming suit and be ready to jump into the hot water pool or just relax and enjoy the panoramic view of the recreation park. Pemali Hot Springs is the main tourism of Sungailiat town. This hot springs come from the active land and suit for health and avoid the rigidly by stand in the water. This tourism objects has equipped with some tourism facilities such as; hotels, shops, etc.

Gedong Village


Desa Gedong is a humble and old village that located in Kuto Panji Village, District Belinyu, Bangka, Bangka Belitung province. Desa Gedong is the oldest Chinatown settlement in the Pacific that has been existed since the 18th century. Reportedly, the residents of the village inhabitants are descended from the Chinese mainland (Chinese Hakka) were brought into the Pacific by the Dutch to be employed as a tin miner. Guangdong Province is touted as their areas of origin because supposedly the citizens of Guangdong are famous as skillful miner.
This humble village which was rewarded as tourism village at year 2000 is inhabited by approximately 50 families or 300 people. Occupying a land area of 2.5 hectares, the atmosphere in this village seem deserted, quiet, and remind us about the atmosphere of old films set in the village of Chinatown.
The vivid impression of the old village is can be seen on the buildings. There are houses with China’s architectural style along the neighborhood when you visiting Gedong Village. There is a simple monument made by iron frames welcomes the tourists before exploring inside the village. The antique houses are still inhabited and the houses are mostly made by wood and it roofed with tiles.
Located about two hours from Pangkal Pinang, the capital city of Bangka Belitung, Gedong village is the village with no electricity. The residents use generators to supply their electricity needs. At the early 18th century, the Dutch built a Mantang power plant in Belinyu to meet the electricity needs for the tin mining practices. Even so, the condition of the lack of electricity seemed to add to the uniqueness of this antique village Chinatown.
Gedong village is 14 km from Kota Belinyu, 53 km from Sungailiat and 90 km north from the city of Pangkalpinang, the capital Bangka Belitung Province. To reach Gedong village, tourists can use private vehicles, buses, and public transportation. Located approximately 90 km from Pangkalpinang, the drive is can be reached in approximately two hours.
The condition of the highway to Gedong village still rouge and not paved yet. The street along the village is largely in the form of hard soil but the journey will be so much fun.

Romodong Beach

The location of Romodong beach is in Belinyu area, north Bangka 77 km from Sungailiat. In this beach the tourists can see the sun that setting down at noon with tremendous view, since the location is facing to the west. All beaches have 4 km distance. If we go to this beach we can see white and soft sandy beach here with a pure water like sparkling crystal.
The white sand extend along this coast, the ripple calm waves make this Romodong beach has its own charm. Bathing at sea water at the beach is very nice because you do not have to worry about the big waves or troughs. The sand which overlays the beach is flat and does not dive, so it is fun when you have to play and bath on this beach.
The gate to enter into Romodong beach is also very unique, which is passed through a gap between two large stones. People used to call “Batu Belah Tangkup” or the split stone.
Other uniqueness from this beach is there is large pile of stones that looks very similar to the frog (toad). People around the coast refer to as Batu Kodok or “Stone Frog”. This stone frog is located right before the entrance to the beach romodong.

Lampu Island


Lampu Island is an island located in the District Belinyu, Bangka, Bangka Belitung province. The island has an area of almost equal with Lengkuas in Belitung Regency and it also has a lighthouse. According to the people around the place, this island called Pulau Lampu due to the light that coming from the lighthouse on this island. But there are some people around called this island as Pulau Pelepas, since the island is also serves as a stopover fisherman to unwind.
The lighthouse that located on the island is a Dutch heritage building. A 50 meter tall lighthouse and being named as lighthouse H.M. Koningin Wilhelmina’ it was once restored in 1893. At the top of the lighthouse you can see scenery of the ocean, surrounding island to the sceneries of Bangka Island from a distance.
Swimming in the cleaar waters of the island is another activity that you can do. If you want to see the beauty of Pulau Lampu from various angles, you can wander around the island by using a rental boat. Not until a day, you can get arounf the island because it has small area. The boat rental rates to get around to this island is depends on agreement with the owner of the boat, but after arriving at this place, all just worth enough.
To reach this island you can use a private or rental vehicle from City of Pangkal Pinang to Penyusuk beach, which takes about three hours by passing through the city Sungailiat and Belinyu City. After arriving at Penyusuk beach, you can rent a fishing boat to get to the Lampu Island. If using wooden boats, you can pay the rent of Rp. 15,000 per person. But if you use a speed boat with a capacity of ten passengers, you will be charged at Rp. 50,000 per person. Do not forget to bring their own lunch before heading to Lampu Island because there have been no tourist facilities on the Island.

Penyusuk Beach

This is one of beautiful beaches in Bangka Belitung that offers the beauty just like the sparkling pearl. Penyusuk beach is located in north Bangka, and it has beautiful panorama. You will find a pile of granite that seemed to form a niche in this beach, coupled with green line trees that grow in coastal areas as well as the existence of four islands that lined up.
As one of Bangka Belitung tourist destinations, this beach has calm sea waves. Therefore, doing swimming and playing on this beach will be the most tremendous thing that we can do. If you want to visit the islands around, you can rent a fishing boat with capacity of up to 10 people, with the price range of Rp 150.000 to Rp. 250.000.
The most visited island around this beach is Lampu Island that also has functioned as a lighthouse. This is where many tourists spend their time swimming and playing at sea water. Do not worry; there are two showers for rinsing the body after swimming. Since the beach has very clear water so we can see the underwater with bare eyes, this is the perfect place for snorkeling, and even camping. Penyusuk Beach is located in Penyusuk village, precisely in the District Belinyu and the located is close to Romodong beach.
To be able to go to Penyusuk beach, you can explore the streets that have been paved with time approximately 1 hour from Sungailiat city. The trip to this beach is can use private or rented vehicle, because there is no public transportation that access the location. Along the way, you will be pampered by interesting and beautiful sights.
There is Tanjung Gudang, an old abandoned port at this beach, that is no longer functioned to be a service port. This port keep numbers of memories for Bangka Belitung People, especialy for those who went to Jakarta at Novemeber, 21, 2000, the moment when Bangka Belitung becames a province Islands.

Muntok


The old town of Muntok is located in the western region of Bangka Island, and becomes the capital of West Bangka Regency, and it also a historical rich town in case of the legacies of European, Chinese, and Malay cultures.
Muntok or Mentok was once an important harbor town, where through this harbor, there were top commodities of Bangka-Belitung including pepper and tin hauled to Dutch merchant ships before they found their way to the major cities in Europe. At early begin, the Dutch made this city as government significant role. Hence, no wonder that you will find the town filled with large number of Dutch heritage buildings that still stand tall and strong today as the witness to a golden bygone era. Besides Dutch legacies, the town is also decorated with Chinese and Malay architecture. The very existence of these unique buildings divides the city into three major clusters, which is the old European town, The Chinatown, and the Malay Town.
For Indonesia, Muntok is also played an important role in the national history, where there are two historical building within Muntok: Pesanggrahan Menumbing and Wisma Ranggam that were once used as an exile homes for the first President and Vice President of Indonesia Soekarno and Mohammad Hatta between 1948-1949.
How to get there :
The town of Muntok is situated about 140Km from Pangkalpinang , capital of Bangka Belitung Province, on the island of Bangka, or an approximate 3 hours’ drive. You can reach this town by public bus, or special transportation (travel mini buses) talomg the Pangkalpinang-Muntok route. If you prefer ease and convenience you can rent a car from Pangkalpinang.

Tanjung Kalian and the Old Light house


Tanjung Kalian is one of coastal area in Bangka. This beach is located approximately 9 km from the city Muntok; from Muntok city to the capital of Pangkal Pinang is about 138 KM. Here, there is a tower or lighthouse that was built by the Dutch in 1862 and also becomes the main attraction at this place.
This lighthouse is stand sturdy and has 117 stone circular staircases that contained of lighting devices which make the room feel cramped. According to the lighthouse guard, the lampshade that made of thick glass is still genuine since the first installation. This lamp has highlight strength to 40 miles away, with the power of 1,000 watts. Whenever ignited is requires 20 liters of diesel, which can survive for 12 hours.
On the inside, we can see our altitude by watching the palm trees far below. On Tanjung Kalian, we can also see the shipwrecks, former ship during World War II. Moreover, those who visit Tanjung Kalian can do sunbathing, swimming and playing at sea water, along the quiet and clean beach.
From the window of the lighthouse, we can see the busy dock that doing their daily activity of Muntok-Palembang crossings, which is being built not far from the lighthouse. Tanjung Kelian pier will replace the Piers Muntok as a place of arrival and departure for ferry crossing.
Tanjung Kalian has white sandy beach and does not have huge granite boulders like most beaches in Bangka Belitung. There are many Ketapang trees on the beach. The beach was also a part of history when Indonesia’s Founding Fathers, Ir. Sukarno, being discarded and he liked to spend time atn this beach.
The beach is also a witness to the dark history of massacre tragedy (Banka Massacre) that occurred during World War II. In February 1942, the Vyner Brooke ships that carried injured troops and 64 nurses in Australia from Singapore sunk by the Japanese Army. A total of 22 people who survived the bombing were still killed. Only one nurse who survived the incident. To commemorate the victims of Bangka Massacre, it built a memorial monument on the beach, in front of the lighthouse.
Tanjung Kalian is already becomes the nearest and affordable destination in Muntok. Every afternoon the white sandy beaches will always crowded by local people who enjoy the moment. Families who come to bring a mat from home, young people are sitting on their bikes, those who love fishing or those who just cuddling with their love one are the one who always visit this beach.

Mount Menumbing


Mount Menumbung (355 meters) a rather high hill in the neighborhood of Mentok (North West Banka) stands as a memorial to the history of the Indonesian nation. It was built in 1932 during the DUTCH occupation period by Bangka Tin Winning Bedrijf (BTW) as a V.I.P. Guest House on the top of Mount Menumbung, is about 500 M above sea level.
Our former President Soekarno and the Vice President Moh. Hatta stayed in the guesthouse during their exile in 1949. Foreign missions came there for negotiating with our former President; the plane from UNCI (United Nations Commission for Indonesia) flew back and forth from Jakarta to Bangka Island during that period. This place is also called as Wisma Ranggam. The room, which was used, by the late President as well as his car is still can be seen in the building. Many Indonesians still like to visit this place of pilgrimage and see the well-kept personal belongings of the two former leaders, which are still in the compound.

Soekarno’s Exile at Menumbing Mountain


Located in Muntok area in the northwest of the island of Bangka, Mount Menumbing has a height of about 355 meters above sea level. At Mount Menumbing, there is an exile pension of Indonesia’s first President Bung Karno and Vice President Bung Hatta by the Dutch during 1948-1949 on the island of Bangka.
The exile pension is guarded by the family who is also Abdi Dalem Sultan Palace of Yogyakarta, since generation to generation, where since day one they have responsibility to maintain Bung Karno and Bung Hatta during their exile in Bangka. Manumbing Mt is administratively located in Air Belo Village, Mentok, West Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung.
The former President Soekarno, and the Vice President Moh. Hatta was stay in the guesthouse during their exile in 1949. The location of Mentok city is relatively far from the airport Depati Amir. It takes about 3 hours to get to the city. The Soekarno’s exile place is a secluded guest house with surrounded by forests and the access is very limited. The First post before reaching Menumbing is only one way in and out available by a vehicle that heading to the top of the Mount Menumbing.
To reach the top, you need to rent a car, because up to now this location is remote and not accessible by public transportation. There is a security post just below the foothills of the mountain Menumbing. To enter the mountain area, you will pay Rp. 30,000 per car which can be paid at the post. You will need to confirm in the post to find out if there are cars that want to come down from the top of the mountain, because the road is one way.

Ada beberapa potensi alam yang luar biasa yang belum dikenal oleh masyarakat luas seperti surganya snorkling di Pulau Kelapan atau Wisata Sejarah diBenteng Bukit Penyengat serta kuburan orang yang telah berumur ratusan tahun diDesa Penutuk.

14. Hutan Pelawan

Hutan Pelawan berada di Bangka Tengah. Hutan ini terkenal istimewa karena keberadaan jamur pelawan dan madu pahit. Banyak mitos mengenai jamur ini, penduduk setempat percaya jamur pelawan memiki kaitan erat dengan keberadaan timah.
Ada pula mitos jika tak ada petir, maka jamur pelawan tak akan dapat tumbuh. Sedangkan madu pahit dipercaya memiliki manfaat yang baik bagi kesehatan tubuh.
15. Pulau Putri
Pulau Putri terletak di Kecamatan Belinyu. Sama seperti Pulau Ketawai, wisatawan harus menyewa perahu nelayan untuk berkunjung ke Pulau Putri.
Pemandangan dengan batu karas yang kokoh dan pasir yang putih akan nampak begitu sampai di Pulau Putri. Banyak yang menyandingkan Pulau Putri dengan Pulau Lengkuas di Belitung.
